Nation celebrates 71st Republic Day with patriotic fervour
PTINation celebrated the 71st Republic Day today with a grand military parade and exhibition of its history, cultural diversity and strategic weaponry at the Rajpath in the National Capital.
President Ram Nath Kovind unfurled the tricolour and took the salute of the parade. President of Brazil Jair Messias Bolsonaro was the Chief Guest at the Parade this year.
Government announces 141 Padma Awards for this year on occasion of 71st Republic Day
The government has announced 141 Padma Awards for this year on the occasion of 71st Republic Day. The list comprises of 7 Padma Vibhushan, 16 Padma Bhusan and 118 Padma Shri awards. 34 awardees are women and 18 foreigners. 12 persons are awarded posthumously.
Former Union Ministers George Fernandes, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley will be awarded Padma Vibhushan posthumously. Pejavara math seer late Vishveshateertha Swamiji will be awarded Padma Vibhushan posthumously. Former Prime Minister of Mauritius Anerood Jugnauth, Hindustani classical vocalist Chhannulal Mishra and Boxer MC Mary Kom will also get Padma Vibhushan.
Former Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar and Legal luminary and educator NR Madhava Menon to be conferred Padma Bhushan posthumously. Eminent Writer Manoj Das, Shuttler PV Sindhu, industrialist Anand Mahindra will get Padma Bhushan.

India, Brazil sign 15 MoUs in cybersecurity, bioenergy among others
India and Brazil on Saturday signed 15 MoUs in various fields including cybersecurity, bioenergy and health and medicine among others, following the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Jair Messias Bolsonaro.
An MoU on bioenergy cooperation, investment cooperation and facilitation treaty, agreement on cooperation in the field of health and medicine, cultural exchange programme for the period 2020-2024 were exchanged between the two sides.
Apart from these, an agreement on social security, MoU on cooperation in the area of cybersecurity, programme of scientific and technological cooperation for implementing the agreement on scientific and technological cooperation, MoU on cooperation in the field of geology and mineral resources, MoU between Invest India and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, Joint Declaration of Intent for cooperation in the fields of animal husbandry and dairying, and MoU on cooperation for establishing a nodal institution in India to carry out research on bio-energy were also exchanged.

International Customs Day is observed on 26 January
International Customs Day (ICD) is observed on 26 January every year. The day recognizes the role of custom officials and agencies in maintaining border security. The day marks the anniversary of the formation of the Customs Co-operation Council (CCC).
On this day, the customs agencies hold employee appreciation events.
The agencies recognize the custom officers for their exemplary service.

EU Appoints Joao Vale De Almeida As First Ambassador To Post-brexit UK
European Union named its first ambassador to the post-Brexit United Kingdom after Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Friday signed the agreement to leave the bloc. Officials on Friday named Portuguese diplomat Joao Vale de Almeida as EU’s top envoy to London.
Joao Vale de Almeida has previously served as an ambassador for the European Union in Washington and the United Nations.
Vale de has worked as a journalist before joining the European Commission in 1982.

Padma Awards 2020: list of Padma Award winners of 2020.
The government of India announced the Padma Shri Awards 2020. The Padma Vibhushan for this year has been awarded to a total of seven prominent personalities, while 16 have been given the Padma Bhushan, 118 have been given the Padma Shri on the 71st Republic Day this year.
Eminent personalities, including former union ministers Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and George Fernandes, Olympian boxer Mary Kom, former Mauritius prime minister Anerood Gugnauth have been honoured with the Padma Vibhushan .
‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguishedservice in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

New species of Allosaurus discovered in Utah
A remarkable new species of meat-eating dinosaur has been unveiled at the Natural History Museum of Utah. Paleontologists unearthed the first specimen in early 1990s in Dinosaur National Monument in northeastern Utah.
The huge carnivore inhabited the flood plains of western North America during the Late Jurassic Period, between 157-152 million years ago, making it the geologically oldest species of Allosaurus, predating the more well-known state fossil of Utah, Allosaurus fragilis
